A note from the architect Jon Drezner: The peaceful scale of the existing old stone farm house and property and the numerous out buildings influenced the direction for the desired additional living space and modernization of the small interior spaces of the 200+ year old farm house. Rather than basically doubling the existing volume resulting in a huge building on the property that would be out of proportion, the addition would have a scale consistent with the existing buildings and landscape. This was accomplished by offsetting the addition with a different "barn-like" aesthetic. A heavy timber structure like for a barn was used. This allowed for the huge main level open space. This structure was exposed thru-out all levels / rooms of the interior. The old stone house was reconfigure as well allowing for larger rooms that again exposed the structure and in this case , the old stone.
