The original portion of the home reputedly dates to 1789. The home was originally restored, expanded, and modernized ca. 1930. The property contains much of the original fabric, including heart pine floors, some of the original horsehair plaster work, and many of the original interior doors and hardware. The faux painted closet doors in the master bedroom probably date to the 18th century. The ca. 1930 additions include many architectural salvage elements including 18th-century paneling in the kitchen and library, and a pocket door and built-in cabinet in the dining room from a demolished historic jail in Blacksburg.
